Youth Tour Quiz Study Guide

This is the FREE trip of a lifetime, but don't take our word for it.  Click here to see the 2017 Missouri Youth Tour YouTube video of what last year's participants had to say.

Howard Electric Cooperative sponsors an essay and speech contest for juniors going to high schools in the Howard Electric service area. The winner of this contest will join 1,500 other winners from across the nation, receiving an all expense paid trip to Washington D.C. in June of each year and receive a $1,000 scholarship to the college of your choice. The essays must be received at Howard Electric by February 28th.

In Washington, D.C., you will see all the historic sites, the Houses of Government, landmarks, and meet your Congressman and Senators.  All you have to do to win is:

  • Decide to enter
  • Research your material (provided by Howard Electric)
  • Complete and turn in the essay
  • Become a finalist
  • Be judged a winner
  • Pack your bags

The CYCLE program is a three day conference held in Jefferson City in late July.  It brings in some of the brightest young leaders from across Missouri.  The focus is to show students more about electric cooperatives, teach leadership skills and experience Missouri State Government.  The program includes nationally known speakers and a day at the state Capitol.  There is also time for some fun things like an outdoor barbeque.  The group is also divided up into smaller teams that compete in carious events like the "build a cooperative" game.  A CYCLE winner will be chosen from the group of Youth Tour applicants.  Again, the description doesn't do this conference justice, watch the 2015 Cycle YouTube video so see what is is really about.
