In an effort to maximize energy efficiency and mange long terms power costs, Howard Electric offers rebates on heat pump systems, water heaters, window air conditioners, advanced thermostats and EV charging stations. Rebates less than $250 will be issued as a bill credit and rebates over $250 will be issued as a check. All rebates and the necessary requirements are listed below.
Rebate Requirements
- Must have copy of original receipt.
- Rebate application must be received within 90 days of purchase.
- All rebates are subject to change without notice and are subject to inspection by cooperative personnel.
- Must be a member of Howard Electric Cooperative.
Available Rebate Details & Requirements
Geothermal Rebate Requirements: Rebates are available for the purchase and installation of up to 10 tons residential and up to 50 tons commercial. The GSHP will be installed with a Delta T of 80 degrees. A Manual J calculation will be used to support the Delta T. Must be qualified with Energy Star +2 rating and have a minimum of 19.1 EER. The home where the GSHP is installed must be a permanent structure on a permanent foundation and on land owned by the homeowner. DX (direct expansion) Ground Source Heat Pumps do not qualify.
New Installation - $750 per ton
Indoor Replacement - $400 per ton
* A 30% federal tax credit is also available.

Air Source & Mini Split Heat Pump Rebate Requirements: The air source or mini split heat pump must have an ENERGY STAR +2 rating of 17.2 SEER2 and be installed by a certified dealer. There is a 3 ton minimum requirement on the mini split rebate. The heat pump may have either electric or gas backup heat.
Air Source - $200 per ton Rebate

All electric water heaters must be 40 gallons or larger to receive a rebate. Tankless water heaters do not qualify for a rebate.

Advanced Thermostat Rebate Requirements: Members can apply for a $50 rebate for up to two qualifying new ENERGY STAR® listed smart thermostats. The smart thermostat can be used with any type of heating and cooling system and the rebate is available for a new home construction or replacement of an existing manual or programmable thermostat.
*Rebate is limited to 50% of the cost of the thermostat.

EV Charging Station Rebate Requirements: Residential and commercial Howard Electric members are eligible for rebates when buying qualifying electric vehicle Level 2 charging stations.
Rebates are limited to eligible services (homes, shops, barns, commercial buildings, etc) that purchase more than 6,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity from the cooperative on an annual basis. The charging equipment must be new. Howard Electric may also complete an on-site inspection of the charger after installation. *Rebate is limited to 50% of total cost, up to $250 per charger, limit 2.
Room Air Conditioner Rebate Requirements: This $50 rebate is applicable for the purchase and installation of qualifying new, high-efficiency, ENERGY STAR® rated individual window or through the wall, room air conditioner units.
Howard Electric recommends the replacement of cooling equipment that is more than ten (10) years old with an ENERGY STAR® rated units. *Used equipment does not qualify for a rebate.
